Welcome back! 👋

It’s been three years, nine months, and a handful of days (depending on when you’re reading this) since the SkyVerge team joined forces with GoDaddy. We’ve been quietly keeping up the good work but haven’t taken the time to talk about what we’re up to!

As you might expect, some things have changed around the ol’ SkyVerge virtual office! Many of our teammates have moved on to new ventures (including our founders—go check them out!), and some new faces have joined the fold. Several of our folks are using their expertise to contribute to other exciting projects across GoDaddy, and we’ve had some changes in our SkyVerge plugin lineup too.

What I’m proud to say hasn’t changed is our commitment to leveling the playing field for eCommerce merchants. You can still expect the friendly, responsive support and high-quality code that SkyVerge is known for from our team of about 15 within the greater GoDaddy family. Lately our team has been hard at work keeping all your favorite WooCommerce extensions up to date and we thought we’d dust off the old blog to showcase some of what we’ve been up to!

There’s a lot to keep up on with our lineup of 40+ extensions, so we’ll organize posts like this roughly along Semantic Versioning guidelines and you can expect roundups like this on a regular basis going forward. Without further ado: Welcome to the inaugural SkyVerge Plugin Release Roundup!

Minor Releases

Google Analytics Pro v2.1.0

  • Feature – Add Blocks support
  • Feature – Add support for Google Consent Mode V2
  • Feature – Experimental: allow using Collect API for server-side event tracking
  • Dev – Add wc_google_analytics_pro_api_tracking_data filter to allow adjusting server-side tracking data

Minor in SemVer but major in our hearts, this release includes a few big feature improvements for our beloved tracking integration.

First and most requested, the plugin now includes Cart and Checkout Block support so you can track customer events through the new WooCommerce checkout journey. This marks our 16th extension to receive a block-compatibility update and you can keep an eye on our progress for our remaining extensions on this page.

This release also adds support for Consent Mode v2 so the plugin will play nicely with your implementation of Google’s new cookie consent standard. NOTE: the plugin doesn’t include it’s own consent-management implementation, but we are working on further integration with third-party consent management plugins that follow the Consent Mode v2 standard to make the overall integration a breeze.

Lastly, we’re experimenting with a new way to track server-side events in the plugin (things like ‘add to cart‘ and 'purchase‘ events) to improve session attribution. We’ve noticed issues with mobile revenue being attributed to desktop sources and Purchase Journey reports falling off after the first step due to Google being unable to attribute events to the correct customer session through their Measurement Protocol API. In our testing we’ve found that using Google’s Collect API directly (the same API that powers Google’s own gtags) can result in a more consistent tracking experience across these events. If that sounds like a win to you, this experimental setting can be enabled from the plugin settings page and, as always, we’re interested in hearing your feedback.
